1 and 2 Thessalonians

Intro to the Thessalonian Letters
This is an historical introduction for our study of 1 & 2 Thessalonians. These letters are considered two of Paul's earliest letters.

1 Thessalonians 1-2
The Romans persecute the Jews for pushing for a Messianic rebellion against the Republic. Paul gets blamed - he did represent an apocalyptic view of the world.

1 Thess 1-2: We are Family
Paul shows how Jews and Gentiles are now members of the same body. He speaks to these Roman Gentiles in the language of "family." WE are to be family.

1 Thess 2: Light vs Darkness
Jesus and Paul both describe the world as a struggle between Light and Darkness. WE are in this battle whether we know it or not...even if we do not believe it.

1 Thess 4 - Called to Faithfulness
A Christian by the act of his/her witness, baptism and life has taken a pledge to be faithful to the Lord (kurios) Jesus.

1 Thess 4: The Second Coming of Jesus
This topic is a focus in the Thessalonian letters. The Second of Christ has always been a significant teaching in the Christian Church from Acts 1 thru the NT and recorded in the Apostle's Creed.

1 Thess 5: Living as if Today is your last day
Leo Purdue: How we should be living in light of the return of Jesus (our accountability)

2 Thess 1: Relax, God can Handle Your Sanctification
Using Chaos Theory (and the awesome character of God) we see that God is the author of our santification.

2 Thess 2: The Resurrection from the Dead
Some are teaching in Thessalonian Church "the day of the Lord" has already happened. Paul is correcting this false teaching because this impacts our view of the resurrection.

2 Thess 2: The Spirit of AntiChrist
Paul's only significant presentation of "the man of lawlessness," a lengthy passage on the "end of the age."

2 Thess 3: The Christian Work Ethic
It was common for traveling "teachers" to roam through the Roman Empire teaching their message. Some of the folks in the church apparently are imitating these men, some of which were presenting false doctrines. Paul is challenging the believers to be diligent in work.

1 Corinthians 13: Love One Another
This teaching is the result of our study in the Thessalonian letters. The study of 1-2 Thessalonian helps us understand Paul's letter to the Corinthian church.
